Order Up! (A True Story)

by Alexandra Erin

“What was your first word?” she asked me.

“‘I’,” I told her, quite truthfully.

“You‘re kidding.”

“I‘m not.”

“You must have just been making noises,” she said. “Who says ‘I’ for their first word?”

“I did,” I said. “I was almost two, and said ‘I would like scrambled eggs, waffles with butter, no syrup, and milk.’”

Haha! Sounds like me. Apparently, while I didn't start talking until I was about two, when I did it was in complete sentences.

"Look, Pop, three red lights!"

My grandfather almost had an accident, he was surprised to hear me speak.
