The little girl and the tiny, bearded man in the pointed hat rounded the tree at the same time. They both jumped back in surprise, taking in the unexpected appearance of each other and then stood there for a long time before either spoke.

"Oh, my," the gnome said bravely. "Are you a real giant?"
