Pre-Apocalyptic

By Iola Foxx

Turn on the TV. Static.
Try the internet. HTTP 404.
Try the phone. Dial tone.
Try the radio. More static.

The end of the world is coming, but this isn’t the beginning. The end hasn’t started yet.

No news. No instructions. Just static.

It gives new meaning to “there will be no warning,” doesn’t it?

I don't know what it is about the silence of post-apocalyptic stuff that gets me, but for me there's always a blend of terror and (deep down) subtle relief at the concept of a world so silent. Maybe I should feel guilty for somewhat enjoying the idea of a quiet world.

Small nitpick: wouldn't it be a lack of dial tone?

Great story!
