A Trick of the Light

by Alexandra Erin

When the lights turned red, the cars stopped. When they turned green, the cars went. It was a good system. There was some disagreement about whether yellow meant slow down or speed up, but the basic idea worked: red stop, green go.

Then one day the lights turned gred, and nobody knew what to do.

Reads like a footnote in the Hitchhiker's Guide. Excellent.
