Clinic

by Jackson Ferrell

I couldn't look them in the eye.

The people who came to the clinic were gaunt, weary, malnourished. There had been a recent outbreak of VZV, and patients arrived with rashes of sores; one disease-ravaged man had scars across his body, with scabbed, withered genitals.

I couldn't look any of them in the eye.
