It Could Be Worse

The bomb dropped.

People screamed.

I laughed, safe in our shelter. “Crazy, was I?”

“So this is the end of civilization,” Jimmy said.

“It could be worse,” I shrugged.

We slept. Margaret was the first to want food.

“Take your pick, we’ve got canned beans, soups, pasta, canned peaches…”

“Where’s the can opener?”

People screamed.

great story! i'm just imagining how it continues with a shelter creative contest 'Open the can without the opener'..it would be one hell of a fun shelter:)
