He Despises Bad Listeners

"Ask me anything," he said.

Her muffled reply was mostly vowels.

He sighed. "But I already told you that, love!"

She tried to repeat herself then broke down into choking sobs. Blood and saliva bubbled redly from her lips. The eye that wasn't swollen shut pleaded with him silently.

"My," he said. "Aren't we dull."
