All Frequencies

"You keep turning that damn knob," I said. "You're never going to find anything."

"Shh," he said, and kept right on moving the dial oh so slowly through band after band of squealing static.

"Nobody survived," I said. "How could they?"

Eventually, the batteries died.

I found I missed the static, along with the hope.
